In passing, she was surrounded by close friends and loved ones.

Valerie was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Los Angeles to Bob and Sadie Rankin. After graduating from San Jose State, she returned to Southern California and worked as a schoolteacher and music instructor. In 1962, she married Gary Runyan and proceeded to raise two children. In 1975, the family settled in Camarillo, where Valerie remained a homemaker and music teacher.

Valerie loved to sing. She was a member of Sweet Adelines for 23 years, performing in a variety of chapters throughout the Ventura County area. She was most recently a part of Agoura Hills Harmony Chorus. Her passion for vocal harmony was such that she also sang lead in several quartets over the years. Some of the people she met through singing remained her closest lifelong friends.

Valerie was a woman of incredible strength and determination, traveling to Sydney, Australia, to see her daughter compete in the Olympic Games last year and entertaining her grandchildren, whom she adored, well into her final days. Though her warm and caring presence will be dearly missed, Valerie's indomitable spirit lives on in everyone she has known. and touched. Mrs. Holland was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Madrid, Spain. She was a resident of Ventura County for 12 years, coming from Santa Rosa, Calif. Mrs.

Holland was a special needs assistant with Santa Rosa School until her move to Oxnard in 1989. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Mrs. Holland was an avid sailor, past member of Anacapa Yacht Club and current member of Channel Islands Naval Yacht Club. She is survived by her husband, H.

24, 2001, in Sacramento. She was 92. Mrs. Hayward was born May 27, 1909, in San Jose to Van and Lorena Hubbard. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1932 with a degree in education.

She married Charles Hayward on Dec. 23, 1934, in San Jose. Mrs. Hayward was a Christian Science practitioner for more than 40 years and was an active member of First Church of Christ Science in Grass Valley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Dennis Manker of St.

Louis, daughter, Lanny Evarts of Boston, son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Beverly Hayward of Grass Valley; five grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.
